The Environmental Star of Excellence Awards celebrates the strides the City of Plano has made as a community over the last year in environmental initiatives and honors the people and community partners making a difference.

Nomination packets are available on-line at www.livegreeninplano.com. An application form must be included with each nomination and must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug.1, 2008 by a third-person nominator or by self-nomination.

Different award categories highlight all sectors of the community and feature a wide variety of efforts being made to live green in Plano. The award categories target businesses, multi-family living, non-profit groups, educational institutions, churches, volunteer organizations, individuals and community partners.

The Environmental Community Partnership Award recognizes the efforts of an organization who has partnered with the City of Plano to accomplish an environmental objective that benefits the community, or motivates residents to take action to protect the environment.

The awards will be given at the 2008 Environmental Community Awards Celebration which will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Conference Center of the Spring Creek Campus, Collin College, 2800 E. Spring Creek Pkwy. at Jupiter Rd. The presentation will honor winners from each category, as well as recognizing other outstanding environmental and sustainable efforts throughout the city.
